Mood film
‘Skeleton Coast’ , Miranda’s debut feature film, is a disturbing psychological thriller about loss and betrayal set against the austere and unforgiving backdrop of the Namib desert.
An ambush on a savannah road results in a couple, Lena and Jan, losing their young daughter. Bereaved and dislocated, Lena returns to her native England whilst Jan continues to work for an NGO in Africa.
Three years later, having determinedly put her grief behind her, Lena returns to Africa to attend a wedding and dissolve her marriage to Jan. On their way back from the wedding the couple get disorientated however and chance upon a horrific car accident in which the only survivor is a five year old black girl.
As they get increasingly disorientated and the harsh beauty of the desert becomes more and more threatening, the atmosphere between Jan, Lena and the girl turns
throttlingly tense and deeply unsettling emotions are unearthed. The past is dredged back and Jan and Lena are forced to confront the reality of the events leading to the disappearance of their daughter.
To shoot spring/summer 2010.
