The Killer Inside Me is a film based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Jim Thompson. Directed by Michael Winterbottom the film stars Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson, and Jessica Alba.
Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford (Casey Affleck) is a pillar of the community in his small Texas town, patient and apparently thoughtful. Some people think he is a little slow and maybe boring, but that is the worst they say about him. But then nobody knows about what Lou calls his "sickness": he is a serial killer. It nearly got him put away when he was younger, but his adopted brother took the fall for his crimes. But now the sickness that has been lying dormant for years is about to surface again and the consequences are brutal and devastating.
Philip French, The Guardian
'No one does dark like Jim Thompson and in Michael Winterbottom's adaptation of The Killer Inside Me, Casey Affleck is perfectly cast as a small-town psychopath'
Kate Muir, The Times
'This is a work of stylish, existentialist brutality, filled with beautiful women and damaged men. The gorgeous 1950s retro appearance of The Killer Inside Me manages at first to distract from its lack of moral compass. But soon the audience is trapped in the mind of a sociopath, unable to look away from even the most gruesome acts of violence'
Ryan Gibly, The NewStatesman
'Winterbottom cleverly allows Lou to dictate the soundtrack at key moments'
Larushka Ivan-Zadeh, The Metro
'The film is such an assured, multidimensional piece and is testament to a perfectly cast Affleck (The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford). There’s a whole heap going on behind those baby-blue eyes that the script leaves unstated, and Winterbottom repeatedly, and wisely, focuses on them'
