Women In Love
The Sunday Times ‘Pick of the Week’
'Woman in Love' when first published in 1920 sparked controversy amongst it's readers with its sexual content and created iconic cinematic moments in the 1969 film adapatation with Oliver Reed and Alan Bates wrestling naked in front of a fire. This month 'Women In Love' is back on screen and it has been gaining great reviews and attention from the press ahead of its airing on Thursday 24th March including The Sunday Times selecting it as pick of the week.
Directed by Miranda Bowen this new adaptation written by William Ivory features for the first time both of D H Lawrence's novels Woman in Love the sequel to his earlier work The Rainbow.
The 2 part drama for BBC Fours 'Modern Love Season' stars Rosamund Pike as Gudrun and Racheal Stirling as Ursula, two sisters in search of love who embark in on intense affairs with friends Rupert Birkin, an alienated intellectual, and the wealthy industrialist Gerald Crich.
Tackling issues of lust, love and sexuality the story remains relevant to today and Ivory hopes he has managed to translate Lawrence’s vision to the screen in a way that will introduce the book to a new generation.
Part 1 airs Thursday 24th March 9pm BBC4
Part 2 Thursday 31st March 9pm BBC 4
